Accordists offer our own analytical tools for understanding better the progress achieved towards the vision of peace and prosperity in the Middle East and the state of relations between Israel and other nations.
In 2025 we launched our first measure, our ‘Recognition Index’. This Index measures the full or part years of recognition of Israel over the past seventy years, the ancient ‘threescore and ten’ human lifetime.
Raw Index
On this measure, a nation which recognises Israel (today all G20 nations except Saudi Arabia and Indonesia) rates 100% and a nation does not recognise Israel (most Arab League nations) rates 0%. Israel and Palestine are not included.
The Recognition Index is calculated for each of the past seventy years from 1955 for current members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (‘OIC’) and the Arab League.
The Recognition Indices (Raw) for OIC and Arab League for 2024 are 50.0% and 23.8%, respectively.
That means that exactly half by number of OIC nations formally recognise Israel.
Weighted Index
To be more meaningful the Recognition Index is also calculated on the basis of a weighting of OIC and Arab League members to take account of three factors for each nation based on 2024:
- GDP (Source: World Bank)
- Military Expenditure (Source: SIPRI)
- Distance from Israel (a factor from 0.5 to 1 where neighbours are 1)
Formula: Average of (a) GDP and (b) Military Expenditure divided by 2.4% multiplied by (c) Distance. World average military spending is 2.4% of GDP.
The weightings are therefore as follow:

After application of these 2024 weightings the Recognition Indices (Weighted) for OIC and the Arab League for 2024 are 37.9% and 27.8%, respectively.
The annual Recognition Indices, raw and 2025-weighted, over the past seventy years demonstrate the gradual and fluctuating progress in Israel’s recognition by OIC and Arab League nations. The significance of the 2020 Abraham Accords is clear.
